Coventry City Sign Defender Ethan Pinnock from Brentford

Coventry City have completed the signing of Jamaica international centre-back Ethan Pinnock from Brentford, the club has confirmed. The fee is undisclosed, though it has been reported to be in the region of £6m.

End of an Era at Brentford

Pinnock, 33, leaves Brentford after six years at the club, having joined from Barnsley in 2019. He made 216 appearances for the Bees, scoring 12 goals, and was in the final year of his contract when the move to Coventry materialised.

He played what the club described as a vital role in Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League, but his role diminished last season, with just eight appearances across all competitions as he lost his place in the starting XI.

Pinnock’s Welcome

The defender spoke of his excitement at the move and what it means to arrive at a club with Coventry’s recent trajectory.

“I’m really excited to join Coventry City and continue my footballing journey with this great club,” Pinnock said. “After 25 years, the club are back in the Premier League, and I know how much it must mean to everyone involved. I can’t wait to be part of it.”

Pinnock isn’t the only familiar face making the switch from West London this summer — he reunites with former Brentford team-mate Frank Onyeka, who has already made the same move to Coventry.

Second Defensive Addition of the Summer

Pinnock becomes Coventry’s 10th signing of the transfer window and their second specifically at the back, following the arrival of Aurele Amenda from Eintracht Frankfurt in July. Between the two deals, and the eight other additions made across the squad, Coventry have now spent more than £100m this summer as they build for a return to the Premier League after 25 years away.
