Ferran Torres Seals PSG Move From Barcelona

Ferran Torres has been given permission to miss Barcelona training as he closes in on a move to Paris St-Germain. The Spain forward had been due to return to training with the Catalan giants on Wednesday but will not do so as the switch nears completion.

Deal likely to exceed £40m

The move to PSG, who face Aston Villa in the Super Cup final on Wednesday night in Salzburg, is likely to be worth more than £40m. Torres, 26, only has one year left on his contract at Barcelona, and some fans have been frustrated by his openness about a potential exit.

Speaking on a media tour of the United States following Spain’s World Cup win, Torres said: “I have a contract with Barcelona but, in football, you never know.” Asked directly about links with PSG, he added that when clubs of that stature show interest it is a good thing, and that everything can change in a minute in football.

World Cup winner and PSG’s ambitions

Torres scored an extra-time winner against Argentina to help Spain claim their second World Cup this summer. He has scored 25 goals in 65 appearances for Spain overall.

He has been at Barcelona since 2022, having previously spent two years at Manchester City, and has made 207 appearances for the Catalan club, 94 of which came as a substitute. PSG have won the Champions League in the past two seasons and are managed by former Barcelona coach and player Luis Enrique. The Parisians could also lose Bradley Barcola this summer, with the forward wanted by Liverpool.
