Aberdeen have completed the signing of Belgian forward Mitchy Ntelo from Swiss side Yverdon-Sport for an undisclosed fee. The 25-year-old has agreed a two-year contract at Pittodrie, with the club holding an option of a further year.
Versatility key to Robinson’s pursuit
Manager Stephen Robinson said Ntelo’s versatility was one of the biggest attractions in bringing him to the club. Ntelo can operate centrally or in wide areas, and Robinson described him as tall and exceptionally quick.
Robinson said the club had tracked Ntelo for some time and were delighted to finally bring him to Aberdeen. He added that although Ntelo has scored the majority of his goals from a central position, he believes the forward has all the attributes to make an impact from the flanks.
“He gives us another dimension in those positions while still providing genuine competition at centre-forward whenever we need it,” Robinson said.
Career path across Europe
Ntelo is nearing 150 club appearances and has scored 30 goals in his career. Last season he scored six goals in six starts whilst on loan at Bulgarian club Botev Vratsa.
He began his career at hometown club Standard Liege before a productive loan spell at Dutch side MVV Maastricht. Moves to Charleroi and Bulgaria’s Lokomotiv Plovdiv followed before he joined Yverdon-Sport two years ago.
Ntelo was loaned to Botev Vratsa earlier this year after Yverdon-Sport’s relegation from the Swiss top flight.
Ntelo said the move represented a big step for him, joining a club with such great support and history. He said he was desperate to make the move happen once he heard Aberdeen wanted to sign him, adding that he knows the club is one of the biggest teams in the league.
