Joao Pedro Signs New Chelsea Contract Extension to 2032

Joao Pedro has signed a new long-term contract at Chelsea, tying the striker to Stamford Bridge until 2032 with the club holding an option for a further two years.

The extension replaces the deal he signed on arrival from Brighton twelve months ago, a £60 million ($82 million) move that itself ran until 2032 with an option for one additional year. The new terms effectively strengthen Chelsea’s hold on the forward beyond what was already a lengthy commitment.

A Deal Earned Through Performance

The timing follows a debut campaign in which Joao Pedro scored 20 goals for the Blues, output that appears to have accelerated the club’s desire to secure him on improved terms rather than wait out the remainder of his original contract.

“I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea,” Joao Pedro told the club’s official website. “I always dreamed of playing for a big club, and it means a lot to me to give my long-term commitment to this club. Chelsea has a long tradition of winning and it has big ambitions for the future.”

He added: “I have a very good relationship with everyone here at the club and I have felt at home here in London from the moment that I joined.”

Interest From Elsewhere

The 24-year-old was a surprise omission from Brazil’s World Cup squad this year, a decision that did little to dent his club form. He has also reportedly attracted interest from Barcelona, and Chelsea’s willingness to extend his terms so soon after his last renewal reads as a clear signal that the club has no intention of entertaining a sale.

Alonso’s Plans

The new deal arrives just before Chelsea open their Premier League season under Xabi Alonso, with the club’s first fixture of the campaign taking them across west London to face Fulham on Monday. Locking down a 20-goal forward before a ball has been kicked under the new manager underlines how central Joao Pedro is expected to be to Alonso’s attacking setup going forward.
